Okay maybe the image of a middle-aged person driving a ‘Vette is cliché, but it’s without doubt the best
sports car for the money, and at least one could rationalize the indulgence on the basis of sheer value. Otherwise, the latest generation Corvette – available in both coupe and convertible configurations – looks and drives like a Hot Wheels car come to life with a 6.2-liter V-8 engine channeling 455 horsepower through the rear wheels via either a seven-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission (the latter will be updated for 2015 with an eight-speed version). When equipped with the available Z51 Performance Package, Chevy says the Stingray is good for a 0-60 mph run in a torrid 3.8 seconds. Not quick enough to salve your midlife crisis? The Corvette Z06 coupe and convertible returns to the line for 2015 and packs a passionate 650 horsepower supercharged V-8 along with other performance-minded upgrades. Handling runs from outstanding to stupefying, depending on the version and how it’s equipped.
