10. Nissan Versa Note SV w/SL Tech Package – Eye in the Sky
Base price: $19,300
Fuel-economy rating (EPA city/highway combined): 35 mpg

Nissan’s AroundView Monitor exemplifies high-end technology in an affordable car. It employs a series of cameras mounted around the exterior of this subcompact four-door hatchback. Working in unison, they project a bird-eye view of the car on the dashboard-mounted touchscreen display. It’s a surprisingly useful aid in tight parking spaces and in all manner of close-quarters maneuvering. Nissan offers AroundView only as part of the Tech Package option exclusive to the most expensive Versa model. But you can still drive out of the dealership with an AroundView-equipped Versa Note for less than $20,000. In addition to the cool camera, you get a pleasant-driving, fuel-efficient, and rewardingly spacious small car. Versa’s continuously variable transmission takes some getting used. And this isn’t the quietest subcompact at highway speeds, but it is a portal into the world of automotive tech.
