2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Base-price range: $30,590 – $65,390
’s flagship stands out on this list in a number of areas. While the vast majority of crossovers give buyers a choice of front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive (AWD), Grand Cherokee
offers rear-wheel drive, AWD, or four-wheel drive, which includes a two-speed transfer case with low-range gearing for heavy-duty off-road use. It’s also the only crossover on this list to have available V-8 or diesel engines. While its nearly unparalleled off-road ability will appeal to those with true wanderlust, this is a fine crossover on the pavement, too, with a well-controlled ride. Grand Cherokee even has appeal for performance enthusiasts with its sporty SRT model, which has a 470-horsepower V-8 engine. The SRT is capable of accelerating from 0-60 mph in 4.8 seconds; running the quarter mile in about 13.5 seconds; hitting a top speed of 160 mph; and braking from 60-0 mph in less than 120 feet. Those numbers are impressive for a sports
car, let alone a crossover that can hold five people plus more than 35 cubic feet of cargo. Interior environments range from upscale on the base Laredo trim to hunting-club opulent on the top-line Summit. Keep an eye on the bottom line, though, as prices escalate quickly as you add options. Still, the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee is a fine crossover that truly offers something for everyone.
