2015 Chevrolet Traverse
Base-price range: $31,695 – $44,635
Its basic design might be one of the oldest on this list (dating back to 2009), but the Chevrolet
Traverse remains a top choice for its versatility and roominess. For 2015, this “large-midsize
” crossover sees no major changes. Traverse offers three rows of seating and can accommodate up to eight passengers. It does this quite capably thanks to one of the most spacious and comfortable third-row seats of any similarly equipped crossover or traditional SUV
. Its sole drivetrain pairs a 3.6-liter V-6 engine with a six-speed automatic transmission. It’s powerful enough to get out of its own way, but due to its two-and-a-half-ton curb weight, it hardly feels quick. That weight also takes a toll on fuel economy, which at 18-19 mpg city/highway combined is not outstanding. We also wish that the available blind-spot alert system were offered on more than just the most-expensive trim level. These issues are more than balanced out by Traverse’s roomy and quiet cabin, refined drivetrain, smooth ride, and easy-to-use infotainment offerings, including built-in 4G LTE wireless connectivity, which turns the vehicle into a mobile WiFi hotspot. If space and refinement are high on your list of priorities, you can’t do much better than the 2015 Chevrolet Traverse.
